What Retroable does not build yet

Retroable builds for the original Game Boy, the 1989 model, the DMG. The screen is 160 by 144. Each pixel is one of four shades. The chip is the LR35902. If a guide on this site mentions those numbers, it is talking about this machine.

Game Boy Color is a separate build. Pick it on the home page and the ROM is made for that machine: real color palettes, the same 160 by 144 screen, and a file that still downloads as .gb. An original Game Boy ROM does not grow a palette it was never given. A Color ROM is the one that carries the palettes.

Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, Game Gear, and Mega Drive are in development. Not all of them can be used yet. The Advance is a different CPU and a different screen. NES, SNES, Game Gear, and Mega Drive are different cartridges and different code. Choosing one of those on the home page asks for your email instead of starting a build.

Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, NES, and SNES are trademarks of Nintendo. Game Gear and Mega Drive are trademarks of Sega. Retroable is independent. Nothing on the cartridge, the box, or the site is an official product of those companies.

When one of those later consoles is ready, it will be a different target with its own limits, written up the same way the Game Boy and Game Boy Color are. Until then the machines you can build for are the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color.
